In 1993, the Observer Magazine brought together a group of parents who shared a similar heartbreaking story: their children had been born with no eyes or very small, underdeveloped eyes. At the time, none of these parents had heard of another family suffering this tragedy - they had coped alone with a condition so rare that it stumped many doctors. But after the article that brought them together, they formed a support group to help families understand and overcome the unique challenges they were facing.
Today, MACS support families affected by these rare eye conditions in the UK - and worldwide through online forums.
